At our annual Gala, we are always proud to celebrate the individuals and families who go above and beyond in support of students with diverse learning needs—and this year, the honor was especially meaningful.

Our 2026 Gala Honorees—Michael Smith, Michelle Primiano, and the Salvaterra Family—received personalized letters of commendation and Joint Legislative Resolution certificates from New Jersey Senator Anthony Bucco and Assemblywoman Aura Dunn. A Joint Legislative Resolution is an official action of the New Jersey Legislature that becomes part of the state’s permanent public record, making this distinction a lasting tribute to their commitment, generosity, and advocacy on behalf of students with learning differences.

“This distinction is deeply significant to our community,” shared Calais School Executive Director John Cohrs. “It reflects the hard work happening every day on behalf of our students and the opportunities being created so that every learner has the chance to succeed.”

But this moment is about more than an award. It’s a reminder of what’s possible when families, educators, advocates, and community partners come together around a shared mission. While this honor celebrates our 2026 Gala Honorees, it also speaks to something larger: the ongoing need for awareness, advocacy, and expanded opportunities for students with diverse learning needs.

As we look ahead, we celebrate not only this milestone, but also the remarkable community whose dedication and support make achievements like this possible.
