I would tell a joke about potatoes but I don’t know where to starch! Hardy-har-har
A bountiful harvest requires lots of preparation, just ask Mrs. Bellot’s Floriculture class. Every year the students in Mrs. Bellott’s Floriculture class work really hard tending to the school’s garden beds. They learn how to use garden tools while they plant, weed, water, and care for the garden from March to November.
This year we had some trouble with pesty groundhogs -they ate our pumpkins, beans, squash, and corn. On the bright side, we got plenty of potatoes! In fact, the abundance of potatoes in our 2017 Harvest yield gave Mrs. Bellott’s class the perfect excuse to have a Potato Festival! What is better than celebrating the spoils of hard-work with a fully loaded baked potato?!
The garden pest situation segued into a good lesson on organic pest control and prevention methods. Students also learned about pollination methods for the corn, squash, pumpkins, tomatoes, peppers, onions and potatoes.
Everyone is looking forward to seeing the spring 2018 garden and maybe a Tomato Festival?!
