The Calais School hosted its first ever virtual open house program on Thursday, May 28.
The event, which took place virtually over Zoom, was a wonderful achievement, attracting more than 20 parents, social workers and school psychologists looking for a school placement for children with special needs. It also featured presentations by Calais School Executive Director David Leitner, Director of Admissions Cheryl Porter-Avino, Director of Counseling Paul Vitaletti as well as Guidance Counselor Michelle Primiano, and Animal Assisted Therapies Handler Susan Greenbaum, along with some of her dogs.

”We were very pleased with the wonderful turnout we had for our first ever Calais School virtual open house,” said Calais School Executive Director David Leitner. “The event was such a success that we plan to offer more virtual open houses as well as our in-person open houses at the school when our school reopens in the future.”

Director of Admissions Cheryl Porter-Avino agrees with Leitner and noted that when The Calais School opens in the fall, she will plan in-person as well as virtual open houses to take place during the 2020-2021 school year.

“The open house was a huge success and we were so pleased to see so many districts and parents were in attendance,” Mrs. Avino said. “The feedback we received was all positive considering this was our first virtual open house.  Due to it’s success, the feedback we received, and everyone’s busy schedules we are considering holding more virtual open houses even after schools reopen.”
