Mrs. Marjane Vitaletti, (aka Mrs. V) began her career almost 40 years ago as a special education teacher for students with disabilities. In 1999, a position for a counseling resource room teacher became available and brought her to The Calais School.
At Calais, while working side by side with students each day, something inside her clicked! She realized she wanted more for herself and for her students. This began her pursuit to earn her professional counseling license. In her own words, she describes this personal evolution, “You might say, as my students grew, so did I. That was the best role-modeling I knew.”
By 2011, Mrs. V became a Licensed Professional Counselor and was ready to take on greater challenges. She speaks to these challenges and how she approached them. “The most challenging part of my job is watching those times when students struggle, and having to realize that this is their journey. Their growth is on their timeline and support and guidance is what matters most.”
Ms. V sees the student-teacher relationship as symbiotic and appreciates the lessons learned from her students. “Not only have I watched many students cultivate, but they have also taught me many life lessons: the value of patience, the gift of compassion and the virtue of love. Believe me, it is not just a job, it is a mission.”
Her students value her steadfast commitment to helping them work through their issues. Even during the most trying situations, Ms. V can keep her cool as one student puts it,”She always is willing to talk me through my issues and is always kind to me even when I’m being rude and obnoxious, and she’s helped me so much throughout my time at Calais. I know this will stay true until I graduate.”
Her colleagues too, have nothing but appreciation for Ms. Vitaletti as a counselor, a person and a member of the Calais team.
“She always makes sure that students feel respected and safe in the classroom environment. They can freely express their ideas and opinions without judgment. She is a great listener and will always take time out of her busy schedule to help students and her colleagues. If she is having a bad day, you will never know it – she always has a smile on her face and a song in her heart. I am blessed to have her as a colleague and a dear friend.” ~ Calais School Behavior Specialist Angela Teritto
“Marjane’s heart is overflowing with love and compassion. I truly appreciate how she always leads with kindness.” ~ Calais School Guidance Counselor, Michelle Primiano
