Through the U Got Brains Champion Schools Program, the Calais School Driver’s Education program recently received a grant of $750! The Champion Schools Program offered students and staff of New Jersey high schools the opportunity to develop campaigns to address topics pertaining to teen driving safety.
The high school students in Mr. Femia’s Driver’s Ed class worked together to develop a campaign that incorporated the use of memes to make the extremely important but often dry content covered in the Drivers Education manual both digestible and humorous. The students learned a lot while also spreading important information about safe driving. The refreshing campaign messaging tackled driving struggles we can all relate to from the stress of the driving test to the struggles of parallel parking and proper driving technique.
The memes were printed and now hang in the gymnasium for everyone to learn from and get a laugh. The funds earned will be used to promote the campaign and upgrade our health curriculum with new textbooks and materials.
Presented by The Brain Injury Alliance of New Jersey, campaign funding for the program is provided by The New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety with support from New Jersey Manufacturers Insurance Company and The Allstate Foundation.
Kudos to Mr. Femia and his students!
