Starting February 16 and running each week through the end of the school year, the Calais School will be collaborating with DAWN Center for Independent Living to provide Calais 12+ students an even more comprehensive life skills program than what was formerly offered. We are extremely excited about this partnership as DAWN provides empowering support services for people with disabilities designed to provide them the tools necessary to make their own decisions and set their own goals.

Calais’s 12 Plus students now have the opportunity to experience a program designed to strengthen the critical skills necessary to lead a productive, rewarding, independent life.  There will be 22 sessions once or twice a week that concentrate on a variety of skills;  daily living, in the community, for employment and self-expression.  While most of the activities will take place at the DAWN facility in Denville, the program will include field trips into the community, guest speakers and guided, interactive group sessions.

We will continue to keep you posted as our students continue on their journey of independent living.
