Calais High School Math students have been enjoying shopping on the internet during the Extended Year Program. Students selected a home in the state of their choice and recorded price, square footage, lot size, estimated mortgage or rent, and taxes. Next, students researched house contents – furniture, appliances, clothing, and much more, while focusing on brand, store, and cost. Students also shopped for a car and planned a vacation. Students studied the ShopRite weekly circular for items of numerous categories such as bakery, baby items, dairy, frozen, pet shop, and produce, to name a few. In addition, students calculated unit price for certain items. Students gained an awareness of the many items you would need to live independently and their cost.
