On April 23rd students in Ms. Mata’s high school Spanish class just hosted their annual International Spanish Language Day celebration! Ms. Mata makes the event special for her students by including them in designing a custom t-shirt and slogan. This year’s slogan is ¡Leer Un Libro! which translates to read a book!

Our elementary classes came to visit and to have the upper school students read to them in Spanish. Some of the books being read were actually written in Spanish by the students themselves! The class also prepared visual aids which they displayed to make sure everyone was able to follow the stories being read.

Now it its second year, this fun activity has been great for encouraging social interaction, reading and public speaking skills but also was a wonderful way to see how far her students have progressed in their development of Spanish speaking skills.

Spanish Language Fun Fact:
Did you know that Spanish is spoken in at least 44 countries. That means Spanish is the fourth most geographically spoken language behind English (112 countries), French (60) and Arabic (57).
