Meet Mrs. Testa, the Calais School’s School Psychologist and highly qualified member of our Counseling Team. Mrs. Testa holds a degree in School Psychology from Iona College in New York. As an in-house member of our staff since fall of 2017, Ms. Testa plays a pivotal role in fostering the safe and supportive learning environment that defines The Calais School.
Mrs. Testa has a wealth of experience across all age groups in the areas of mental health, learning and behavior. She partners with families, teachers, and school administrators, and other professionals to ensure Calais students succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally. Her role as School Psychologist is crucial in implementing behavior plans, case management, facilitating student assessments, offering in class student support, and reinforcing connections between home, school, and the community.
How does our School Psychologist Work with Students, Teachers, and Counselors?
From time to time any student may encounter problems related to learning; social relationships; making difficult decisions; behavioral issues; or managing emotions. As the resident School Psychologist at Calais, Mrs. Testa provides direct support and intervention of students and consults with teachers, families, and other school-employed mental health professionals (i.e., school counselors, school social workers) to enhance support strategies. Mrs. Testa conducts student observations in the classroom and reviews of student records to provide insights that will augment student development and learning. She also works with the Admissions Department to assess student referrals and is the Case Manager for Calais’ 12 Plus students.
