On Wednesday, June 14, 2017 The Calais School community came together to celebrate our 6th annual Touchdown For Success Field Day. All stations this year emphasized team building and fitness. The students’ team work and effort exceeded our expectations at every station. Some student favorites included frisbee bowling, obstacle courses, and route running. The staff and students would like to thank Nike, Microsoft Bridgewater, The Gridiron Gang, DJ Nellz, and Acai Ya Later for their effort and involvement in field day this year.
The Gridiron Gang was in attendance this year for the sixth consecutive year and we loved having them share their football knowledge with us. Stephen “The Touchdown Maker” Baker started the event with a positive message to the Calais Community. Stephen spoke about winning Super Bowl XXV with the New York Giants and about the team work, countless effort, and selflessness that it took to win a championship as a team. Stephen’s message was motivating and the perfect way to kick off our event.
We even got to pass around his super bowl trophies during his speech! Former NFL football players Clarence Love, Odessa Turner, Stephen Baker, Damian Gregory and many more helped make our route running stations the best they have ever been. The Gridiron Gang always brings positive energy to our program and the students appreciate and always look forward to their involvement. Our students loved having lunch with them as well and getting autographs!
Nike was in attendance for the first time this year which it helped improve our program drastically. Volunteers ran stations that emphasized fitness, team building, and sportsmanship. Nike made exercising and team building fun by implementing creative obstacle courses that made us sweat! We also had some other first time volunteers in attendance this year. DJ Nellz had the students dancing and singing all day! Acai Ya Later was serving up fruit bowls that were healthy and tasty. We thank them all for providing the energy our students needed on a physically demanding day!
Microsoft was in attendance for the third consecutive year. Our students loved playing the latest and greatest video games, and learned a lot from a lesson on cyber safety and cyber bullying during lunch.
Field Day is a day that the students and staff look forward to each year. The entire community comes together for field day which creates memories that will last a lifetime. Again, we want to thank everyone who made this field day special, and we look forward to another Touchdown for Success next year!
