Beauty is in the eye of the ogre in The Calais School’s presentation of Shrek The Musical Jr. The cast and crew blew the audience away in this part romance and part twisted fairy tale adaptation. If you are unfamiliar with the story line, Shrek, leads a cast of fairy tale misfits on an adventure to rescue a princess and find true acceptance.
Young Shrek was preformed by Owen while the full-grown and gaseous but lovable ogre was played by Avery. Fiona was portrayed by three talented actresses: Patricia, Marissa, and Adriana. The supporting cast also did an amazing job with some stand out performances by Jake as the tiny terror Lord Farquaad, Anna as Pinnochio, Katie as the Gingerbread Man, Robert as wise-cracking Donkey, and Chelsea as the Dragon. In an unexpected twist, Assisted Principal Mr. Sokolewicz even made a few surprise cameos.
The play ended with a standing ovation and well deserved congratulations for the dynamic performers, crew, and of course the play’s Director, Mrs. Tlack. Mrs. Tlack has been working with her drama students for several months in preparation for their live performance. Mr. Milioto and Mr. Brooks have also dedicated a lot of time to creating the set that really helped bring the performance to life. A special thank you goes to everyone who donated props and costumes as well as Mr. Amaya, Mr. Femia, Ms. D’Antuono, Mr. Paterson, Mrs. O’Shaughnessy, Mrs. Ramos and Mr. Tulloch for all their help and support.
The Calais School’s Drama Department puts on a production every year for which students of all talent levels and abilities are encouraged to participate.
