On October 22, 2019, Calais Upper School students had a great time at Novartis’ Disability Mentorship Day. The annual hands-on career exploration event was also attended by students from several local schools.

The purpose of the initiative at the company’s local campus was to share insights with special needs young adults about career possibilities and to help build a diverse local future workforce. The students gain a new perspective through this day of exploration and inspiration.

Reflecting on the day, Calais Guidance Counselor Michelle Primiano described the event as “a wonderful opportunity for local high school and college students with special needs to realize just how valuable of a talent pool they are.”

The students engaged in interactive career sessions, and heard a keynote speech from Joshua Leonard, character designer and cartoonist. He created Team Supreme, a cartoon about a group of pint-sized kids who all have a disability, but they also have amazing super powers as well.
