The Calais Cougars are off to a fun season this year with a young and developing team and lots of team spirit.
On February 12, the team defeated Banyan 46-29. The team this year is young and developing, but still managed to get their third win this season in front of a home crowd. The crowd was filled with fans, Ms. D’Antuono’s spirit squad and Mr. Aquino’s pep band. The pep band was accompanied by Carly and Adriana, who sang the national anthem to start off the game. Then the fun began as the Calais Cougars jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Bryce led all scorers with 11 points and Rory chipped in with 10 points. “I was most proud of the fact that we had 10 different students score a basket this game and we were able to have a balanced game,” said Coach Femia. “Jeremy and Donte, who have led the team in scoring this year, took a backseat and played for assists to get everyone a chance to score. The most impressive part of this game was that some of our students made their first baskets of the season! We are proud of all the hard work that Carly, Ben, Josh, Chelsea, Isabella, and Connor put in this season and happy for them that they were able to score baskets this game.”
Coach Femia added that the team “also wants to congratulate Sam K., Sam P., Kyle, and Paula for all their rebounds and for creating space for people to score by setting good picks. Thank you to all our fans for always making our games fun! We really feel like we are all in these games together as a community. “
