The Calais School Counseling Team, upon the recommendation of Counselor Karen Liberato, decided to create the video “Celebrating Calais Cougars-We Miss You!” to inspire students. The video also shows students that the school’s staff is proud of how well students are handling the remote learning during the coronavirus pandemic.

The special video “was put together as a way to stay connected with our students and let them know we are here for them during this challenging time,” said Calais School Social Worker Danielle Isetts, LCSW. “Teachers, paraprofessionals, counselors, administrators, related services staff and AAI handlers/dogs all came together to share inspirational messages for our students. The photos, taken from our homes, add a personal touch and remind us that we are all in this together.”

Ms. Isetts said the video is a way for the school’s staff to show their support for students and for each other “as we adjust to this temporary new normal.”

“Although we may not be together, we are all navigating this uncharted territory together,” Ms. Isetts said. “We are so proud of our students and their bravery and resiliency. We are here to support them as they continue their (virtual) learning at Calais.”

Calais School Executive Director David Leitner said he was very excited about the project. “The video made by our Calais School Counseling Department “Celebrating Calais Cougars-We Miss You!” demonstrates how our school staff comes together to support our students during this challenging time,” he said.

Calais Counselor Mrs. Liberato said she got the idea for the project from another school. “I am very proud of all of our students and faculty for rising to the challenge and being brave,” she said. “This is not an easy time.”
