Calais School Executive Director David Leitner has announced that Ms. Theresa Fritzky, an experienced special education supervisor and teacher, will become the school’s new Assistant Principal and Supervisor of Instruction effective August 3, 2020.
Ms. Fritzky, who was most recently the Supervisor of Special Education for Jefferson Township Schools, will succeed John Cohrs, who became the Calais School Principal on July 1. He is also Director of the Extended School Year (ESY) Program.
“We are pleased to announce that Ms. Fritzky will become our new Assistant Principal and Supervisor of Instruction,” Mr. Leitner said. “Theresa has many years of experience as a special education teacher as well as supervisory experience of a special education program with an emphasis on curriculum, instruction and staff development.”
Mr. Cohrs introduced Ms. Fritzky to staff in an email on July 31. “We are thrilled to have Ms. Fritzky come to us with valuable experience in special education, as both a teacher and supervisor,” he said. “We are pleased to have her join our team and look forward to her contributions to the growth of our program.”
“I feel excited and honored about my appointment and I am looking forward to supporting the teachers as we work together to meet the needs of the students as well as achieve the mission and goals of Calais,” Ms. Fritzky said. “I am also excited about working with David Leitner, John Cohrs and Dr. Diane Manno. They have been extremely welcoming, and I cannot wait to begin collaborating with them.”
Ms. Fritzky said she is also enthusiastic about joining the Calais family and despite these unprecedented times, during the pandemic, plans “to make this new experience as successful and rewarding as possible for both teachers and students.”
Ms. Fritzky has a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education and Special Education from Centenary College in Hackettstown and a master’s degree in Education Leadership from Montclair State University. She is certified as a principal and teacher of special education.
Ms. Fritzky was also named Teacher of the Year while working as a special education teacher in the Mount Olive School District.
“At Calais, our faculty, staff, administration and our trustees represent the best of what is possible in Special Education,” Mr. Leitner said. “Together we will continue to learn, grow and improve as a community to be the best possible special education school by any measure possible!”
