Every October during Breast Cancer Awareness Month,  many of us want to make a difference by participating in a walkathon or fundraiser or special event to make people aware of breast cancer and to raise money for this important cause.

However, this October is different since we are in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic and it is necessary to put our health and safety first. That’s why we put together a list of ways you can make a difference in the fight against cancer without participating in an event.

Here are some ideas to consider:

1. Find a local or online volunteer opportunity. There are online sites such as Volunteer Match or Create the Good which will help you find opportunities locally or from home.

2. Earn money for charities with Charity Miles. This lets you become a “sponsored athlete” and earn money for the charity of your choice simply by walking, running, or bicycling. This can be a great family project.

3. Donate to the organization of your choice. Check out sites like Charity Watch for top-rated charities in a variety of categories.

4. Make a difference in the life of a breast cancer survivor. Every year the Calais School assembles, decorates and donates cancer survivor gift bags that contain all sorts of goodies to help those going through treatment or recovering.

You can make a difference in the fight against cancer this October (and throughout the year). Whether it’s through a special event or from your own home, whatever you do is important and will make a difference.
