Mrs. Mutchler and The Calais School bands and choirs have been busy throughout the months of May and June. The annual Spring Concert, Lower School Awards Breakfast, and graduation day rehearsals have kept our student musicians very busy.

The Calais School Annual Spring Concert wrapped up the month of May with a rousing concert . The Calais School Band performed six selections for our parents, students, and staff. The repertoire featured our percussion section,  which had our audience’s feet tapping along to the music.  The band also welcomed new musicians including 2 clarinetists and a flutist, a violinist and a new guitarist.

The junior choir featured the classes of Ms. Heinen, Ms. Braen, Ms. Perillo and Ms. Tacinelli. Their songs about peace, love and unity moved entertained and moved the audience. The teacher choir performed several pieces, including Seasons of Love from the musical RENT. Their upbeat rendition of Kiki Dee’s I’ve Got the Music in Me reminded our students with special needs that when something gets in your way, go around it!

In June, our elementary students performed at our Lower School Awards Breakfast. After presenting our younger musicians with their music awards, Mrs. Mutchler led the student choir in This Land is Your Land and You’re a Grand Old Flag. Sign language and solos highlighted the talent of so many of our students.

This week the high school band has been rehearsing patriotic music for our commencement ceremony on Wednesday. They have been working extra hard to rehearse their songs for the big day, including Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance for our graduates!

It has certainly been a busy year for our Calais School musician. Cheers to a great year!
