The Calais School school musical Peter Pan brought pirate intrigue and Tinkerbell’s fairy dust to an audience of students and families this June. Under the direction of music and drama teacher Margaret Mutchler and assistant director Patti Russo, students performed the J.M . Barrie classic about the boy who refuses to grow up.
Students rehearsed with for months while the stage crew worked on scenery and lighting under the direction of art teacher Chris Catalano. The play opens in the London nursery of the Darling children with a visit from Peter Pan. With the help of his friend,Tinkerbell, Peter takes the three children on a magical flight to Never-Never Land. This enchanted island is home to Peter, Tink, the Lost Boys, Tiger Lily and her Native American nation, and the scheming Captain Hook who is as intent on defeating Peter Pan as he is from escaping the tick-tocking crocodile that ate his hand!
Students performed familiar songs You Can Fly, The Second Star to the Right, What Makes a Brave Girl Brave, Follow the Leader, I Won’t Grow Up, and of course Never Smile at a Crocodile!
The school musical reminds us all of what we can accomplish when we work together and work hard. This would not be possible without the dedicated staff who made costumes, painted sets, and accommodated student actors in class. Thank you to our audience, adminstration, faculty, staff, and STUDENTS who put on a great show!! Can’t wait to see what you do next year!
