Media Communications at the Calais School provides students with a practical experience in digital visual media production. This thorough hands-on course explores camera operation, script writing, lighting, audio production, video editing and the effects of television and advertising on viewers. The course is designed to foster collaborative, team-based planning with the emphasis on application of skills acquired in all aspects of video production.
With Calais’s recent addition of new professional broadcast equipment, students are be assigned 21st century career roles and form a broadcast-quality production crew as part of the curriculum. They are given the opportunity and responsibility to script, write, edit, and produce original content together.
Mrs. Damer’s Students have also worked with other classes to support their audio-visual needs. Recently, Ms. Roberts’ STEM class visiting the Calais Studio to share their weather reports on-camera. Mrs. Damer’s eighth-grade students were “hired” to produce the videos, operate the camera, and manage the studio floor in order to ensure the shoot would run smoothly.
The Calais School Certified Technical Education (CTE) offering provides students with a rigorous and integrated instruction of academic and industry-specific content as well as workforce readiness training and applied work-based learning experiences. Areas of concentration include: Early Child Development, Media Communications, Digital Arts, Floral and Landscape Design, Hospitality & Tourism, and Office Occupations.
