As many of you know, our original Transition Fair date was snowed-out due to a freak winter storm that gave everyone a messy commute home to say the least. As a result we rescheduled the event for the evening of Wednesday, November 28th. While we were expecting a lull in attendance we had a wonderfully successful night!

With over 2o vendors, The Calais School’s gymnasium was filled with the likes of DAWN Cil, Bergen Community College, Rutgers NJTIP, and Allied Wealth Partners to name a few!

Attendees arrived with questions and left with a wealth of information and knowledge about post-high school options for young adults with disabilities.  Now in its 5th year, we are excited to announce that attendees included Calais students but also other teens and young adults with special needs in our local community!

The Transition Fair is a great way to connect with representatives from community colleges, trade schools, employment and state agencies and advocacy groups to gain:

  • Exposure to community resources
  • Info about colleges and training programs
  • Knowledge about employment services
  • Tips on independent living options
  • Insight about the future to share with the IEP Team
  • Instructions for how to apply for certain benefits at age 18

Our Transition Fair is always free and open to students, parents, clinicians, case managers and more looking to explore transition options.

Thank you to everyone who attended either as a guest, vendor, or volunteer!
