Calais students observed Read Across America Day by reading and wearing their favorite pair of crazy socks.

As part of the fun, many Calais students enjoyed Dr. Seuss books including “Fox in Sox”. Some students read the books while others enjoyed listening to others read to them. In addition, many students wore their favorite pair of crazy socks.

Read Across America is a national celebration of reading established by the National Education Association (NEA) back in 1998 to help excite children about reading. The day occurs each year on the birthday of children’s book author Dr. Seuss, or Theodor Geisel, and brings together students, teachers, parents and members of the community to come together to read books and celebrate the joy of reading.

Calais Principal John Cohrs has been known to sport a Cat-in-the-hat hat around the school and the Animal Assisted Interventions Dogs even join in the fun.
