The Calais School celebrated National School Choice Week with our 2016 theme Making Healthy Choices. Students have been hard at work preparing with posters throughout the school and planning special events to celebrate the positive and healthy choices we make every day. Part of a week-long national celebration of educational options for students, The Calais School was one of 13,224 schools throughout the U.S. who participated in National School Choice Week and a larger discussion about positive educational choices for all.
Students and staff participated in events throughout the week. Under the guidance of Mrs. Vitaletti and their homeroom teachers, they made posters and bulletin boards about the importance of healthy choices.
Our school-wide Making Healthy Choices breakfast on Friday brought students and staff together for a delicious, healthy breakfast—made by Mrs. Russo and her students. Jake B. gave a moving speech on how important healthy choices are for us all.
Several students performed the National School Choice Dance for their friends and teachers during lunch after practicing diligently with Ms. Post and Coach Femia during their free time. Part of a week-long celebration of the positive choices we make at Calais, the dance brought us together to remind us that together, we succeed!
Watch our students perform the dance with a special surprise at the end:
National School Choice Week spotlights effective schools for every child. Held every January, National School Choice Week (NSCW) shines a positive spotlight on effective education options for every child. National School Choice Week is a nonpartisan, nonpolitical public awareness effort. It is particularly meaningful for The Calais School because we understand the difficulties parents, families, and students have when choosing a school to meet a child’s special needs. NSCW celebrates all of the options that parents have, or want to be able to have, for their children’s education.
We had a great time celebrating the positive and healthy choices we make every day at Calais. Thank you for your support!
