Calais Cross Country concluded its first season last week. Coach Femia and students celebrated by getting t-shirts and having one last fun practice. Mr. Catalano stopped by with a student from the yearbook committee to take pictures of us practicing and a team picture for each group. There were three cross county teams: high school girls, high school boys, and a middle school boys group.

Mr. Femia stated, “I saw tremendous progress in each group and enjoyed running with them as we pushed ourselves to complete our runs each day.” The high school groups started off running about a mile each practice. By the end of the season they were running two miles per session. The middle schools boys showed similar progress by running ¾ a mile each practice to start and improved to 1 and ¾ miles to finish the season.

As our teams improved, our morning announcers shared the runners’ accomplishments each day. Their hard work and dedication served as an inspiration for us all.

At the end of each run, there was a reward of accomplishment and enjoyment. Everyone built friendships and learned to be competitive and enjoy themselves while doing it. We  look forward to growing this program in the future and helping students push themselves harder each and every day.
