The Calais School Track Team participated in a fun-filled track meet on March 9 at the Jersey City Armory where students competed in a variety of events with participants from six school teams.
The nine participants from The Calais School participated in races ranging from a 55-meter sprint to a half-mile run. There were relay races and individual competitions.
“The effort, enthusiasm and team support was apparent from the start of the event,” said Coach Vincent Femia. “Our team was cheering and supportive of their friends and the positive vibes were contagious!”
Coach Femia said some of the highlights of the track meet include Chelsea winning the gold medal in the 55, 200 and 400 meter sprints, Samantha taking home the silver medal in the 55-meter sprint and Rory also earning the gold medal in the 600 and 800 meter runs. “Above all the personal achievements, we were proudest of the team supporting each other and coming together throughout the event,” Coach Femia said. “With a team that was supportive and helpful with one another, we were able to win the third place trophy at the event!”
The Calais School Team was very excited to accept all of their medals and the trophy at the awards ceremony. Coach Femia said the team is looking forward to participating in future meets.
