On Monday, June 25th, 2018 The Calais School came together with family, faculty and staff to celebrate the graduation of our senior and eighth grade classes.
The ceremony opened with inspirational speeches by Calais’s Executive Director, David Leitner and Principal, Dr. Manno. Notably, The Calais School founder, Charlotte Leitner and several school board and Calais Foundation members were in attendance.
Each of our graduating seniors prepared their own speech and addressed the audience with confidence, poise and great comedic timing. The graduates reminisced over their favorite classes, teachers and memories at Calais. Many shared their experiences prior to attending Calais including the normal anxieties of starting at a new school, learning to make new friends, and how they settled into life at Calais much easier than anticipated.
During the ceremony, The Calais Band played the Star Spangled Banner and the main theme for Star Wars while the chorus serenaded us with “These are a few of my favorite things.” There were also lots of heart felt moments, like when each graduating senior presented their mother with a hug and a rose after receiving their diplomas.
The ceremony ended on a high note with the graduating class of 2018 dancing their way out of the ceremony to “Dancing in September” by Earth, Wind & Fire. Following the ceremony, family, friends, students and staff mingled and posed for pictures as they enjoyed light refreshments and delicious cookies.
Congrats to our graduates of 2018!
