Group shot of graduating 8th graders

The 2018-2019 school year was filled with tons of fun times and lasting memories but none top the emotionally charged but uplifting 2019 Commencement Ceremony. Parents and family members flooded the gymnasium along with students, teachers and staff as our high school seniors and 8th graders accepted their diplomas and adjusted their tassels.

This year we had a special guest speaker, Anthony Ostlund, Calais School Alumni and graduate of Morristown High School. He spoke passionately about his experience prior, during, and after his time at Calais. Anthony’s powerful words resonated not only with the students but with parents and teachers. His personal journey and message encouraged students to pursue their dreams no matter the odds and no matter the circumstances.

As is tradition, our graduating seniors each addressed the audience to share their own words on their experiences at Calais. Many took the opportunity to thank their families, teachers and the friends they made at Calais. Graduates also shared their plans for the future, many of which included returning to Calais in the Fall for our 12 Plus Program.

The Calais School band performed “Pomp and Circumstance” during the graduate procession as well as the “Star Spangled Banner” and “The Incredibles.” Graduating 8th graders Adriana and Carly performed a duet  rendition of “Star Spangled Banner” while the band played. The Calais Choir closed out the ceremony with the upbeat classic “We Go Together.”

The students and Administration walked out dancing and celebrating the accomplishments of all 18 graduates. After the ceremony,  students and their families were invited to stay for dessert and light refreshments.

Congrats again to our graduates!
