The Calais Transition Program is designed to increase student awareness, exposure, and preparation as they begin to think about and plan their futures. Calais students explore individual interests and abilities while receiving hands on support from a collaborative team consisting of our 21st century life & careers instructor, work-based learning coordinator, guidance counselor, and job coaches.
Students are introduced to Transition during the 9th grade- program offerings expand incrementally as students progress through high school and on to 12 Plus. Older students (high school through 21 years) pursue individual career paths, learn self-advocacy and prepare for their next step in a safe and encouraging environment. Course work for all students includes health and safety, executive functioning skills, financial literacy, house keeping, travel training, cooking, and more. Key areas of focus include: socialization, life skills, independent living skills, exploring post secondary options, development of employment readiness skills, and exposure and access to community resources.

New Calais Adult Transition Program
We have developed a new program to meet the needs of an underserved population within the special needs community!
Many young adults with learning disabilities graduate from high school to find that they do not qualify for state funded services and are subsequently left to navigate higher education or employment on their own. The Calais Adult Transition Program will provide college and career readiness support for adults with special needs who have graduated from high school and fall into the age range of 18-30.
