In Mr. Maturo’s 8th Grade World History class, students recently learned about medieval times. This included a unit of study on feudalism, heraldry, and the Crusades. Students learned how knights and nobles in feudal societies displayed their status, familial ties, and political allegiances through the use of a coat of arms. Students set out to create their own coat-of-arms to represent themselves, using medieval symbols along with some modern imagery in Mr. Catalano’s Art class. Each shield is accompanied by a written description that explains the symbolism and color choices that make them meaningful to each student.

The shields created would make any knight proud to ride into battle!
