Integrated, competitive employment…
The current labor market is ripe with opportunity but can be highly competitive. Becoming a desirable employee requires a combination of general job skills, life skills, and relevant experience or education. Fortunately, the students at the Calais School who participate in the Structured Learning Experience (SLE) component of our 12 Plus Program receive the training they need to confidently seek employment.
Our students gain valuable work experience in a variety of job sites through unpaid internships. These internships take place in local retail establishments, early childhood development centers, healthcare facilities, food markets, animal shelters, graphic design shops and libraries as well as other opportunities. “Working” in the community 2 to 3 days a week through the SLE program gives students the opportunity to identify & explore career interests, skills and abilities while developing employability skills and good work habits. Students gain an understanding of employer expectations, cultivate appropriate workplace behavior and build a resume all at the same time.
Calais is always looking for opportunities to expand our SLE program with local businesses and continue to empower our 12 Plus students with valuable work experience. Success is right around the corder!
