Calais students are enjoying a series of fun virtual assemblies in May and June ranging from wacky science to music technology.
On May 5, students in grades K-12 Plus participated in a high-energy assembly titled “Music Technology with Brent Daniels” where students learned how music is composed in today’s entertainment industry.
Daniels, a successful music producer, created an interactive virtual program where he asks students to create sounds by singing a few notes or even “meowing” like a cat and then creates a finished product using the song and sounds created by the students. “Here is the cool thing,” Daniels said. “This is a truly interactive distance-learning experience.”
The music producer said his program is “an effective way to engage students” and get them excited about math, science and music. The high-energy presentation features lights and different kinds of music and even features clips from movies, shows and video games that children will recognize. The students learned how music is created in today’s entertainment industry. The program utilizes a cinema-quality multi-camera setup, high quality studio audio and a unique approach to remote audience interactivity as Daniels shows students how music is produced today for music soundtracks, television shows and video games. Students enjoy participating in the program, creating on-the-spot sounds or singing parts of sounds and then listening to the finished product.
In addition to this program, students enjoyed other virtual assemblies including “The Magic of Reading” on May 11 for grades 3-7, and “Paper Airplane Guy” May 17 for grades 8-12 Plus. Other upcoming programs include “Corey the Dribbler” June 1 for grades 3-12 Plus and “Wacky Science” for grades 3-8.
