Starting in November 2019, The Calais Institute will be presenting a series of four workshops for parents/professionals throughout the school year. The free and highly informative events will be hosted by The Calais School in Whippany, NJ.
The first event, Navigating Special Education and Partnering with Your Home District, will take place on the evening of Thursday, November 7th, 2019 6:30-8pm. While professionals are encouraged to come, the workshop is geared toward providing parents and caregivers of students with special needs with a better understanding of the special education system.
Whether you are in the throws of navigating special education or just beginning your journey, this event will give you the perspective and strategies to participate meaningfully in the process. Attendees will glean information on the requirements for the provision of special education from both legal and professional perspectives. Guest speakers Dr. Harold Tarriff, former Director of Special Services, School District of the Chathams, and Dr. Elizabeth Matheis, Psychologist & Education Consultant, will walk you through legal requirements, prerequisite procedures and the knowledge to be co-equal partners with the professional charged with meeting the unique special needs of you children.
Registration is not required but is recommended. We hope to see you there!
