After a successful inaugural program, it is once again that time of year… the Trout in the Classroom program has come back to The Calais School!

On October 15th the Calais School welcomed a new “freshman” group of trout to our school community. This year’s class is of the rainbow trout variety. Students were on hand to welcome the fish with open arms.  Trout Unlimited presented the fish and provided students with background information on how best to care for the fish as they grow from the embryo to fingerling.

As with last year’s school of fish, a release date will be scheduled for mid-May. Co-sponsored by NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife and Trout Unlimited, Trout in the Classroom (TIC) is an environmental education program in which students learn to appreciate water resources, foster a conservation ethic, and begin to understand ecosystems.

Keep checking back to watch our trout grow!
