As we begin October, we’ve been back to school for almost a month. It looks a lot different than when we left back in mid-March! Classes are smaller, the day is shorter, we have less time to socialize with our friends, and there are more rules to follow. Not to mention, virtual learning, both in school and at home, is now a big part of our world. It can be overwhelming as we get used to this “new normal” and wondering how long this will all last.
During uncertain times, it is important to focus on what we CAN control. There are many things we CAN all do to help keep ourselves and others healthy:
- We CAN wash our hands frequently.
- We CAN remain socially distant (at least 6 feet) from others when we’re at school.
- We CAN wear our masks, especially when we can’t socially distance.
- We CAN develop and follow a daily routine.
- We CAN stay home when we don’t feel well.
- And, in this new world, we CAN reach out to our teachers, friends, and counselors virtually when we are feeling overwhelmed or anxious.
Acting on what we CAN do will help us feel some control in a situation that often feels “out of control.”
Virtual learning offers some challenges, but it also offers some opportunities. We CAN continue to learn. We CAN see our friends, teachers, and counselors so we CAN stay connected. We CAN learn to be flexible. We CAN work on our patience.
So, as we enter our second month of the “new normal” at The Calais School, feel proud of your perseverance! Let’s focus on what we CAN control. Let’s have patience with ourselves and with others. And, let’s continue our learning and growing!
