Through art, students are building identity, strengthening self-esteem, and envisioning future possibilities. Meet senior Cameron A. and freshman Sofia E., two talented student artists who proudly showcased their work at the Calais Foundation Gala.

For Sofia, art is freedom—an open space where imagination leads the way. “I can do whatever I want with it, basically,” she shares. A freshman and emerging artist, Sofia is especially drawn to painting but also enjoys exploring arts and crafts in her free time, continually expanding her creativity and skills. Looking ahead, she is considering a future as a sketch artist, a career path that would allow her artistic talents to flourish. Contributing her artwork to the Calais Foundation Gala marked an exciting milestone—not only as an artist, but as a young person finding her confidence and creative voice.

For Cameron A., a senior, art has been a constant and defining force. Describing it as “the one thing I am good at,” Cameron has embraced a wide range of artistic forms—from painting and sculpting to diamond art and mixed-media projects. Their impact on the Calais community is visible in the murals they have created over the years, leaving behind a lasting legacy of creativity and expression. This fall, Cameron will take the next step in their journey at Pratt Institute, where they plan to study Industrial Design. It’s a fitting path for a student whose hands and imagination have already brought so much to life.
