To continue our 50th Anniversary Special, we are excited to share the perspective of Rory S., who has been a student here for an entire decade! The Calais School has greatly improved Rory’s life by opening doors to new opportunities and by helping him exceed his possibilities.
During Rory’s time at Calais, he has starred in school plays, performed in the band, and played on the basketball team. Prom and Field Day are two of his favorite memories; he points out that these special events were great opportunities for him to enjoy getting together with friends and peers.
From the beginning, new opportunities have made Calais stand out to Rory, who explains, “I’ve felt like I’ve learned to do stuff that I’ve never done in my life before.” Although this learning experience took quite some time, he has “learned a lot of skills and lots of lessons.”
In his free time, Rory enjoys running and seeing his friends. He often combines these two activities by competing in cross-country and track and field meets with friends from his town. “I love being on the team!” he says. “I think the people are very supportive of not only myself but everyone else too…. Every time I go running it puts me in such a good mood!” One fun fact that you might not know about Rory is that, if he could have any superpower, he would choose to be invincible.
In a few short weeks, Rory will be graduating in Calais’ Class of 2021! We are very proud of his accomplishments here and of his acceptance into Misericordia University to study sports management.
The Calais Community also shares Rory’s excitement in his being chosen to receive the Joe Gorga Connections for the Future scholarship! This wonderful honor reflects the hard work and positive attitude that Rory has become well-known for through the years.
