The Calais Cougars had their first home basketball game of the year against High Point Lodi on Wednesday, January 7th.

Our basketball team has been practicing extremely hard over the last month and showed off their skills in front of students, staff and their biggest fans, The Calais Spirit Squad. The Spirit Squad was a key factor in making all the players work as a team and push through fatigue throughout the game. They are true motivators and our team is so lucky to have them as their #1 group of fans!

Everyone’s hard work proved to be a success as the Cougars came out fast in the first quarter and built an early lead. The game was an exciting show of skills and sportsmanship, however the Cougars we were defeated in a close game that kept the audience on the edge of their seats. Our basketball team took a giant step forward this week and will continue to build on that in their next game.

Coach Femia shared,

Our team is to be commended for the amount of heart and desire they showed today. This team loves the sport of basketball and it shows. Whether it is at a pick-up game at lunch, at our practices, or of course at our varsity games, we show heart and dedication. I am proud to be a part of a team that handles themselves with such class and dignity on the court. I cannot count how many genuine acts of terrific sportsmanship we all saw today and that is why our positive attitude will continue to grow the success of this team.

Our players are to be commended for their hard work and sportsmanship and are role models in our community. We cannot wait for the next game vs. Deron School!
