The Calais School in Whippany is partnering with the ARC of New Jersey and other local resources to offer a special webinar series to assist parents and caregivers of special needs students. The “Transitioning to Adult Life” webinar series will be offered on Thursday evenings beginning in December through the Calais Institute.

Our first workshop, titled “SSI & Medicaid, How to Apply and Why,” will be offered on Thursday, December 3 from 7-7:45 p.m. Join presenter Jerisa Chiumu-Maseko, FLE Director, Planning for Adult Life, The Arc of New Jersey to gain an understanding of how to access health care services for their loved one with I/DD from the current health care system. Each month the series will cover topics relevant to parents and guardians of teens and young adults with special needs. All workshops will be hosted through zoom so attendees can join us from the safety and comfort of their own home. All attendees must register to gain access to zoom meeting information.

The second workshop will be on “The Benefits of Attending the Calais School’s 12+ Program,” on Thursday, January 29 and will be presented by Calais School Structured Learning Coordinator Lisa Vallo. This program will highlight the Calais School’s Transition program for students ages 18-21. The program is designed to offer students the skills they need to move successfully from school into the adult world. To learn more, visit The Calais Institute event page.

Additional workshop topics will be released soon and will feature a wealth of information. Details on the topics and presenters will be available soon on The Calais School’s website.
