The new year has just begun and with it may come changes that may affect private, state-approved special education schools like The Calais School immediately. The New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE), which regulates private special education schools like The Calais School, has recently proposed more than 80 pages of new accounting rules that will likely hurt private schools and make it increasingly difficult for schools like Calais to operate.
For a better understanding of these issues, please take a moment to read some very important facts about the proposed changes. These changes to NJAC 6A:23A-18 are extensive and potentially disruptive to the education that you and your family rely on for your children. We are working closely with partner associations like ASAH, which serves the private special education community in the state, to combat these changes and plan accordingly.
How you can help
Write a letter to the NJ State Board of Education (here is a template letter). Ask them to reconsider and reject these excessive proposed new rules and rule amendments. Tell them how important private special education has been to your child.
