With the spirit squad leading the school-wide cheers, the Calais Cougars were able to get their first victory of the season on January 11th. This is a team that has played hard every single game and has never quit, regardless of the scores in the game. The teams we have played this year have been bigger and stronger than our team, but we work hard and show resilience every single week at practice and at our games.  Every week our team sets different goals, which up until this point was to learn to play like a team.

Furthermore, we set the goal of being good sports and working together. If something doesn’t go our way we cannot argue about it; we need to find a way to fix the problem. Our school is proud of our team and we thank them for all their support.

One of the most memorable moments of the game was when Kyle came into the game in the second quarter, and made a three-point shot right away. Gabe also demonstrated great physical ability with his defense and rebounding. Brendan and Oscar are to commended for running the offense at point guard and making sure everything goes as smooth as it can. The core of this team is young and enthusiastic, and the future is bright for Calais basketball!
